David's 5th Grade Trip

David was excited to go on his 5th grade field trip to Camp Kappe this year.  He slept away from home for 3 nights and came home very excited about all the fun experiences he had.  The kids had great weather for lots of time outdoors.  Good stuff.

Emily's Edge Spring Retreat

Emily enjoyed a spring retreat with her youth group from church.  Here they are bright and early on Saturday morning, ready for a weekend of fun!  I love that they charter a bus for them because it makes it really easy on the parents!

Blue and Gold Banquet

David moved up to Boy Scouts this past Saturday and joined Troop 1180.  He started Cub Scouts as a Tiger back in 1st grade and we are excited for him to move on in this adventure.  The Blue and Gold Banquet was hosted by our Webelo parents and was a big success with BBQ chicken and all the fixings, a Texas snake show, and of course all the awards and ceremony.

David is on the middle left, pictured with his new Boy Scout troop.

Here is David right after he crossed the bridge from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.  He is receiving his new neckerchief and slide.

And although he wanted no more pictures, I had to get one of Chris with David and the beautiful arrow he labored hours and hours over for his son.  The arrow's colors are made of thread and the color and length of each represent  the achievements David has accomplished over his years in Cub Scouts.

And last, our family was responsible for creating this year's Program for the Blue and Gold Banquet.  He hired Emily for the design work because it is one of her many talents and she enjoys doing this kind of work.  It came out really great and very professional looking.

We had some trials trying to get the ultra fancy copier machine at church to make our 60 copies just the way we wanted them but after much struggle, and the supportive presence of Father Tom, we got it done!  Never mind we had to use our paper cutter at home to trim it because the margins were wrong... but all in all, it got done and looked lovely!

 Great work Emily!

Steps for Students

Emily was up and out of the house by 5am to cheer on the 10,000 racers today at Steps for Students in downtown Houston.  Now that is what I call dedication.

Lia's 9th Birthday Party

Lia wanted to have a "home" party this year with friends and party games.  We did a lot of brainstorming and came up with some fun ideas and hoped everyone would enjoy it.  Here is the birthday girl with her #9 cupcake right before we sang to her.

Here is her awesome little group of girlfriends.  We were so excited that everyone we invited was able to attend.

We did a mummy wrapping game where each team of 2 girls had to see who could wrap a roll of toilet paper the fastest.  It was really fun... though I cringed a little at the waste of toilet paper!  I played the Bangles Walk Like and Egyptian and the girls had never heard it before.  It came out in 1986... ha!

Limbo was a hit!  Everyone likes that game.

David and Emily put on a magic show for everyone!  They even had stage names:  Zim Zam (David) and Drizelda the Mentalist (Emily)  I won't say it went off without a hitch... but the very observant girls enjoyed their antics and only foiled a few tricks.  ;-)

Here they are playing spin the nail polish bottle.  I had a ton of nail polish so each girl could pick a color and spin it.  If the bottle pointed to you, the spinner would paint one toe nail.  They played till everyone's nails were painted!  We found this one on a google search of 'fun party games for 9 year olds'  I would call it a winner.

And here is her Happy Birthday video.  If she looks a little angry at the beginning it is because here siblings were threatening to sing the mean (annoying and traditional according to Emily)birthday song... the one that goes:  Lia Nelli's a pain/ She sings like a train/ She is driving me/ insane in the brain.

On the Soccer Fields...

Lia decided to give soccer a try this early spring season so we have been spending a small part of our Saturdays on the soccer fields.  She is enjoying it and doing a lot of running!

Mr. Smiley likes the bleachers.

He's making sure his big brother doesn't fall backwards.

David's Parvuli Dei Award

David was awarded his religious achievement, the Parvuli Dei Emblem, last weekend and was recognized at mass.  Chris and David worked on this achievement for several months so it is kind of a big deal.  Way to go David!

Almost smiling!  It's a great day!

Pius Academic Rally

Emily has enjoyed the Quiz Bowl club at school and got to attend her first academic rally.  Basically the kids can choose to take tests in subjects they enjoy and submit some of their fine art work for competition as well.  Emily was super excited to get a first place ribbon for one of her poems and she also tied for 5th place on her English test.  While she didn't place for religion, another boy from our school took first place for 6th grade theology, which was very exciting for her team.

Lia's Art Class

Lia started taking art classes last September from the same teacher Emily has enjoyed for so many years.  While Emily's schedule was too full for art classes this year, Lia was very excited to finally be old enough to attend.  Here are some pictures of the fox she completed recently.  She's very talented!

We love the art room!

And here all the wonderful creations from these talented kids!  I love how they are the same study but uniquely different according to the artist.  Maybe one day I'll be able to take art classes too!
