Real Science 4 Kids - Chemistry

One reason to homeschool is to study subjects not offered in a traditional school environment. Chris is a chemical engineer and Emily expressed an interest in learning Chemistry since "that's what Daddy does..." When I showed her the Real Science 4 Kids curriculum, she said she'd like to give it a try. This program introduces Chemistry, Physics and Biology to 1st-3rd graders in their pre-level 1 books. The Chemistry book is colorful, has silly pictures to represent the molecules and does an excellent job introducing the basic principles of Chemistry. Each chapter in the book has a test, which Emily takes on the computer, and a lab for us to do at home. The lab for the second chapter used marshmellows and toothpicks to illustrate how molecules follow rules to join with other molecules. I think you can tell from the smiles that they liked this lab.

  1. This looks like so much fun! We actually have the textbook. Our late friend Kelly taught a small portion of it 2 summers ago, but MC was a little young. I'll have to find it and see if it interests her now!

Also, looks like a fantastic vacation! I love hearing about all the family traditions on your trip; that's so neat!
